How does Scaling And Root Planing work?

• Dental scaling: Dental scaling is a procedure performed by your dentist to eliminate the plaque from your teeth with the use of manual hand instruments and/or ultrasonic instruments. Before doing the scaling, your dentist will start by doing a thorough assessment of your mouth then he will use his scaling tool to remove the plaque buildup from the surfaces of your teeth and the gum line.
• Root planing: Root planing refers to the process by which the root surfaces are being scaled to reduce the inflammation of your gums. This is also done by your dentist in order to smoothen rough areas where bacteria typically harbor and to avoid further plaque formation.
